WERiSE
Weatherize Every Residence in the South East
WERiSE is a community-based program that teaches regular people how to make their homes stronger, healthier, and more energy-efficient. The program is run by Technical Director Cosco Jones and is a project of the People's Justice Council and Alabama Interfaith Power and Light.
"Weatherizing" a home means making repairs and improvements that stop energy waste. This can include sealing cracks, adding insulation, and fixing heating systems. These upgrades make a home more comfortable and can save families hundreds of dollars every year on their power bills.
Why It Matters:
The Energy Burden Problem
Most people do not think twice about their power bill. But for low-income families, the cost of keeping the lights on - and the heat or air conditioning running - is a serious financial burden.
This problem is called "energy burden," and it hits hardest in communities that can least afford it.
