Alabama Interfaith Power & Light

Alabama Interfaith Power & Light (ALIPL) is a program of The People's Justice Council. It is also a chapter of the now-inactive National IPL. The mission of ALIPL is to be faithful stewards of Creation by responding to climate change through the promotion of environmental justice, energy conservation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy from a faith perspective.

Originally organized in 2005, ALIPL was an active statewide presence until 2011. ALIPL was reorganized and re-energized at the birth of PJC on June 24, 2019, by Rev. Michael Malcom, and a dedicated steering committee representing a cross-section of business, nonprofit, and faith-based communities from across the state.

One of ALIPL's main campaigns was our Interfaith Statement on Energy and Equity (see photos below). On Feb. 4, 2020, ALIPL conveyed the wishes and prayers of 31,928 concerned citizens, including representatives of diverse houses of faith and other institutions, to Alabama's Public Service Commission (PSC). With the endorsement of the United Church of Christ, our statement represented the support of more than 900,000 folks of faith. ALIPL is shown below unfurling our banner on the steps of the PSC and in front of the former PSC president's home church in Montgomery. AL.
