Restoring Hope

Climate-Driven Migration and
Community Renewal in the Gulf

Creating a physical, social, and spiritual safety net for Gulf South communities by proactively addressing climate-driven migration within 100 miles of the Gulf and fostering sustainable solutions for a thriving future.

The Gulf South region...

...faces significant challenges due to climate-driven migration, with frontline communities experiencing heightened vulnerability. Our project, “Restoring Hope: Climate-Driven Migration and Community Renewal in the Gulf,” seeks to address this pressing issue by transitioning these communities from a state of mere resilience to proactive restoration.

The Problem

Climate change is causing increased migration within 100 miles of the Gulf, disrupting lives and straining community resources. Current efforts focus on resilience, but a shift towards restoration is essential for long-term sustainability and well-being.

A Solution

Building on our existing From Resilience to Restoration initiative, we will leverage our existing Gulf South network to implement a comprehensive strategy that includes community engagement, capacity building, and policy advocacy, with the goal of creating a physical, social, and spiritual safety net for Gulf South communities by proactively addressing climate-driven migration within 100 miles of the Gulf and fostering sustainable solutions for a thriving future.

Our approach involves...

  • Community Engagement: Conducting workshops and forums to gather input and foster collaboration among stakeholders.

  • Capacity Building: Providing training and resources to enhance local leadership and community-driven initiatives.

  • Policy Advocacy: Working with policymakers to develop and implement restorative policies that move migrants without the systemic baggage and that address the root causes of climate-driven migration and that are mobile/transferable from one place to another.
